Bullying at Workplace - Identify and Deal with it
Bullying has becoming more and more common. The number of cases rise rapidly over the years. It can be found everywhere in the world and the age range of the victims suffer from this is large, from child to adult or even elders, which means anyone can be the victims. Bullying can be found at the workplace. It causes big impacts towards the organisations, such as profit loss, death, bad working environment, etc.
People are often hesitant to make complaint about this, whether they are the victims or when they see it happens to others. Why is this happening? It is most likely because people are worrying that making a complain may affect their future in the company, especially when they are bullied by someone with higher rank in the company. The employee with higher rank may end up without been penalised which is discouraging for people to make a complaint as it is not going to work and instead they may be victimised as they are at lower rank. The working environment is also one of the reason behind. In a working environment where everyone is self-centred and bad relationship, it discourages one to express themselves when they are bullied or saw someone is being bullied.
To stem the tide of bullying at workplace, organisations and individual managers play important role to tackle this issue. They can help people feel more comfortable to make a claim by doing consultation to their employee on a regular basis. The managers should try to build good relationship with the employee, so they are not afraid to express themselves. They should create a culture where people feel safe to stand up for their rights to equal treatment and being treated with respect and dignity. This can be done by organising workshop with related topics and penalize heavily to those who bully.
In a nutshell, bullying can happen at anywhere. It really needs to be prevented before it causes catastrophic results.
